Explore The Outdoors With Nature Programs

Enjoy an evening exploration. Come find out what lurks at dusk. We'll learn some common animal calls and look for tracks. This program is open to participants ages 6-12 and the fee is $3. This program will be held at Lake Wheeler on Wednesday, August 11th from 7:45-8:45pm. Pre-registration is required four days in advance. Youth Touch Football Fall 2010 Registration

Lake Lynn Community Center will be offering a youth touch football league this fall. It will be an introduction to the game of football, skills, fundamentals and sportsmanship will be taught to the beginning athlete. This league is offered to children ages 5-6 (age is as of July 31, 2010). All games and practices will be held at Williams Park in northwest Raleigh and will primarily be held on Saturdays, starting in September and ending in November. Registration fees are $36 for residents and $46 for non-residents, registration includes a shirt. Registration will be held August 17th through the 24th at Lake Lynn Community Center.

Raleigh Launches New Web Portal Aug. 1

On Aug. 1, the City of Raleigh's web portal will change -- completely! The site has been re-created to be of greater value to residents and to make it a more enjoyable and productive place to visit. It promises to make it much easier to keep up to the minute on City news and events; register for classes; file for a permit or do any business with your City.

Grant Expands Raleigh's Hybrid Technology

The City of Raleigh's Office of Sustainability has been awarded a $23,272 grant from the Clean Fuel and Advanced Technology (CFAT) project to install two electrical vehicle service equipment stations and help acquire two hybrid vehicles. CFAT is sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the North Carolina Solar Center and North Carolina State University.

"Over/Under" Art Exhibition Opens Aug. 5

"Over/under," an art exhibition sponsored by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, will be on display Aug. 5-Sept. 20 at the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery in the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St. A related exhibition also will run at the same time at Block2, the Arts Commission's offsite video venue located in the window of the City's Urban Design Center, 133 Fayetteville St. Block2 features films created by local video artists which are curated by Neill Prewitt.

Approval Given For Engineering Services For Little River Project

The Raleigh City Council unanimously approved a contract amendment with consultant Hazen and Sawyer in the amount of $1.2 million. The amendment is for continued engineering services needed to prepare an environmental impact statement for the planned Little River Reservoir project.

The City of Raleigh is digging even deeper into its groove for Raleigh Wide Open 5 (RWO5). The July 31 celebration will feature a home-grown performance act called Maximus Circus as its main event. Maximus Circus will offer performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in City Plaza.
