‘Soul Census Ambassadors’ Hold Media Conference Thursday

Octavia Rainey, chair of the Wake County Census Complete County Committee, is hosting a media conference Thursday that will focus on the minority faith-based community. Ms. Rainey will be joined at the 1 p.m. event at First Baptist Church, 101 S. Wilmington St., by 30 ministers who are "Soul Census Ambassadors." City Council Member Nancy McFarlane will represent the City of Raleigh.

Help Bring Google's Network To Raleigh

Children learn foreign languages much more easily than adults do. Now is the perfect time to give your child a jump start on learning Spanish. In this class, kids will learn basic greetings, shapes, dates, colors, shapes, and more. They will also learn Spanish songs and break open a piñata! Classes are held at Millbrook Exchange Community Center on Saturdays, March 6th - 27th from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Cost is $30 per person.

Council Votes Against Commercial Development In Falls Lake Watershed

The Raleigh City Council voted unanimously to oppose commercial development in the Falls Lake watershed. Council members took the action at its March 2 meeting in response to a proposal being considered by the Wake County Board of Commissioners that would include converting a lumber yard within the watershed into a shopping center.

Public Safety Center Fails To Get Needed Votes For Approval

The Raleigh City Council today remained deadlocked on the planned Clarence E. Lightner Public Safety Center. Council members voted 4-4 on a proposal to fund the project. The proposal failed as at least five votes are needed for approval.

Public Art And Design Board Selects Two Sites For Art Project Budgets

The Raleigh City Council today approved the recommendation and proposed budgets of the first two projects for implementation of the Half-Percent for Art public art program. The Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center and the Halifax Park and Community Center were selected. The budget for Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center will be $71,500 and Halifax Park and Community Center will receive $32,100. The funds for the effort will come from the 2007 Parks and Recreation Bond.

Raleigh Needs Total Participation In 2010 Census

The 2010 U.S. Census will be conducted this spring. The 10-question Census form will be mailed to American residents March 15. Reminder postcards will be sent to every American household on March 22. April 1 is National Census Day, when everyone who has yet to do so is asked to answer the 10 questions and mail the form in the postage-paid envelop provided. Any personal data that is provided is protected under federal law. If you do not return the form, you may receive a visit from a Census taker who will ask you the questions from the form.
